Japanese destroyer Oboro
Encyclopedia : J : JA : JAP : Japanese destroyer Oboro
Oboro was a Fubuki-class destroyer of the Imperial Japanese Navy. Her name means "Mist Veil Through Which Only a Shade of the Moon is Visible", or "Haziness Diffusing the Moonlight".
From 11 October to 17 October 1942, Oboro was on a transport run from Yokosuka via Shimushu to Kiska. She was sunk on 17 October in an air attack by U.S. Army B-26s, 30 miles (55 km) northeast of Kiska (). A direct bomb hit among munitions being carried caused the ship to blow up and sink, leaving only 17 survivors, including Lieutenant Commander Yamana, to be rescued by Hatsuharu (heavily damaged in same attack).
On 15 November 1942, Oboro was removed from the Navy List.
