Jason "Rocket" Scotland (born February 18, 1979) is a Trinidad and Tobago footballer who plays as a forward (soccer) for St Johnstone F.C. in Scotland. After playing for Malick Senior Comprehensive School, Scotland went on to San Juan Jabloteh, Defence Force (Trinidad - 11 July 2003), Dundee United F.C. (Scotland - 15 July 2003 to 22 July 2005) before joining his current club St Johnstone F.C. on August 23, 2005.
Jason Scotland made his belated entry into the Trinidad and Tobago national football team by scoring two goals, which steered them to a 2-1 win over visiting Scottish Premier League side, Dundee F.C. on the January 19, 2003. Ian McCall, manager of city rivals Dundee United F.C., soon brought him to Tannadice Park that summer after Jason secured a work permit. He made his United debut on August 31, 2003, against Rangers FC and scored five times in his first nine starts in the Scottish Premier League. In 2005 Jason was force to return to Trinidad after his work permit application was turned down for renewal. However, he had an application to play for St. Johnstone approved and has done enough to warrant a place in Trinidad and Tobago's World Cup squad.
Jason Scotland has also appeared in a national advertising campaign in Scotland for Irn-Bru - makers of the country's other national drink - with the "Scotland's going to the World Cup" catchprhase to coincide with the Trinidad and Tobago team in the 2006 FIFA World Cup and the Scotland national football team's absence in the competition. The campaign features the player in posters, newspaper and television adverts. Many Scots have since taken to supporting Trinidad and Tobago in the 2006 World Cup (no doubt partly as they were drawn to face England in the group stages) and have singled Scotland out as their 'star man', alongside Russell Latapy, Marvin Andrews and others who play in the Scottish football leagues.
