JayC Food Stores

Encyclopedia : J : JA : JAY : JayC Food Stores

JayC is a supermarket chain located in Southern Indiana. It was founded in 1862 by John C. Groub, who opened the first store in the chain in the city of Seymour. The chain peaked at 44 locations before voluntarily shrinking to 30 -- including sister stores Foods Plus and Ruler -- by the late 1980s.

In 1999, the John C. Groub Co. was acquired by Kroger, who continues to operate 28 of those locations. The Foods Plus stores have been renamed JayC Plus.
