Jean Edward Smith (born October 13, 1932) is an accomplished educator and biographer having authored such works as Grant, John Marshall: Definer of a Nation, and Lucius D. Clay: An American Life. Presently he is the John Marshall Professor of Political Science at Marshall University. His biography of Ulysses S. Grant, which emphasizes his character and accomplishments, is credited with rehabilitating the former President of the United States and American Civil War hero in the eyes of many.
