Jennifer Ehle (born December 29 1969) is an actress best known for her role as Elizabeth Bennet in the 1995 serial Pride and Prejudice.
She was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA to English actress Rosemary Harris and American author John Ehle. In 1992, she was plucked from drama school by Peter Hall to star in the mini-series The Camomile Lawn and won critical acclaim and a Tony Award for her portrayal of Annie in Tom Stoppard's The Real Thing in 2000.
In January 2006 she completed filming Road to the Sky, an Indian-US co-production directed by Santosh Sivan, and in April 2006 wrapped Michael Clayton with George Clooney. She is also in Pride And Glory (film) with Edward Norton and Colin Farrell. Alpha Male, directed by Dan Wilde, will be released on August 11th 2006 in London.
She returned to the stage as Lady Macbeth (Shakespeare) at the Delacorte Theatre as part of Shakespeare in the Park from June 14 to July 9, 2006. In late 2006 until 2007, she will be performing in The Coast of Utopia, by Tom Stoppard.
Past relationships include Toby Stephens, from The Camomile Lawn, and Colin Firth, with whom she starred in Pride and Prejudice. She is now married to the writer Michael Ryan and they have a young son, George. They currently reside in upstate New York.
