Jennifer Tipton is a prolific, award-winning lighting designer. She has lit hundreds of shows including numerous dances, plays, and musical productions. She won a Tony Award for Best Lighting Design for Jerome Robbins' Broadway as well as for The Cherry Orchard. She is particularly influential in the field for her designs for dance as well as for her many years as principal instructor for lighting at the Yale School of Drama. Choreographers she has worked with include Mikhail Baryshnikov, Jiri Kylian, Dana Reitz, Jerome Robbins, Paul Taylor, Twyla Tharp, and Dan Wagoner. She holds the distinction of having taught most of the eminent lighting designers in the field, including Don Holder, Chris Akerlind, Michael Chybowski, M.L. Geiger, Robert Wierzel, and Scott Zielinski. 2006 Tony award winner Howell Binkely also assisted her for many years.
