Jerome Brown (February 4, 1965 - June 25, 1992) was a former American football player who played defensive tackle for the Philadelphia Eagles of the National Football League. He was a key player on one of the NFL's top defenses before his life was cut short in a fatal 1992 car accident.

College career

Born in 1965, Brown played college football at the University of Miami, where he was a standout player. He graduated from the university in 1986.

NFL career

Brown was a first-round draft pick by the Philadelphia Eagles. During his five-year professional career with the Eagles, he was twice selected to the Pro Bowl (in 1990 and 1991).

Death

Brown died on June 25, 1992, at the age of 27, following a car accident in Florida, in which both he and his nephew were killed. Brown was buried in Brooksville, Florida.

Brown's jersey number (#99) was retired posthumously by the Eagles in an emotional pre-game ceremony on September 6, 1992, prior to the Eagles first game of the 1992 season. In honor of Brown, the jersey number will never again be worn by any Eagles player. It is one of only seven jersey numbers retired in the history of the Eagles organization.
