Jewish Settlement Police

The Jewish Settlement Police were a division of the Notrim established in the British Mandate of Palestine in 1936. Members, known as Nodedot, were trained by their commander, Yitzhak Sadeh, in the art of unconventional warfare and specialised in mobility and surprise attacks. The force was established on 1. Januray 1939 [link]. A field army based on Jewish Settlement police was estimated to be 16 000 men and women strong in 1946. [link] The Settlement Police cooperated with the British to form a joint British-Jewish unit known as the Special Night Squads. It was commanded by Charles Orde Wingate, a British officer who strongly supported the Zionist cause. They fought Arab guerillas who were attacking the Iraqi Petroleum Company pipeline.
