Jiménez is located in the Mexican state of Coahuila, at 00° 40´29" W longitude and 29° 4´11" N latitude and an altitude of 250 meters above sea level. It is located on the confluence of the Río San Diego and the Rio Grande (locally known as the Río Bravo) bordering with the U.S. state of Texas. It serves as the municipal seat of the surrounding municipality of Jiménez. The town was founded in 1859 under the name of "Resurreccion" by captain Manuel Leal, and tejano expatriate families from San Antonio, Texas.
