Jimi (James) Mistry is a British actor born to a Zoroastrian Indian father and a Catholic English mother. He trained at The Birmingham School of Acting. He first gained exposure playing a doctor on the British soap opera EastEnders.
In 2000, Mistry played small-time crook Eddie in the comedy Born Romantic. This was followed by a small role in the drama My Kingdom.
He then starred in his first American film, The Guru, where he played Ramu Gupta, an Indian dance teacher who moves to America to be a star, but ends up with a career using his unique sensual abilities to please women. The movie contains elements Bollywood movies within a standard romantic comedy plot. Mistry's next starred in Touch of Pink as a young, gay, Muslim Alim. He also starred in the British comedy The Truth About Love.
