Jinbê (甚兵衛, 甚平, sometimes written "jinbei") is a kind of traditional Japanese clothing worn by men and children during the summer. Jinbei sets consist of a top and matching shorts.
Traditional jinbei is made from hemp or cotton and dyed a uniform color, often blue or green. The top resembles a sleeveless or short-sleeved jacket that falls to the hips. It ties closed both inside and outside the jacket. Traditional jinbei is often worn by men as a substitute for yukata when attending summer festivals.
Today, jinbei is frequently used as a form of sleepwear as well. Modern jinbei can be found in many materials, often with designs printed on the cloth. This type of jinbei involves a shorter jacket that stretches only to the waist.
