Jinpachi Mishima (三島 仁八, Mishima Jinpachi; roughly translates to "Eighth to be kind in the Third Island" in Japanese) is a character in the Tekken fighting game series.
Jinpachi Mishima is the father of Heihachi Mishima, first introduced in Tekken 5. Jinpachi is the first Namco boss character in the Tekken franchise to be fully featured without being selectable.
History
Before Tekken
Jinpachi Mishima is the father of Heihachi Mishima and founder of Mishima Zaibatsu. He was defeated during a hostile takeover by his son 50 years before the fifth King of Iron Fist Tournament, and imprisoned below the Hon Maru, one of Heihachi's compounds.Tekken 5
It is explained in Lei Wulong's epilogue that after he died, a certain "thing", presumably a demon or the "devil gene", or maybe ogre, took over his body, resurrecting him and endowing him with supernatural power.Hon Maru was left practically in ruins after the King of Iron Fist Tournament Four, when Jin left both Heihachi and Kazuya unconscious. Soon after, the G Corporation, a rival of the Mishima Zaibatsu attacked with a unit of Jack-4s. Kazuya stayed and fought alongside Heihachi for a short time but then threw Heihachi into the group of Jack-4s. One of them self-destructed, seemingly killing Heihachi. The resulting explosion released Jinpachi from the basement of Hon Maru, and the demon that possesses his body seeks to destroy all existence. Jinpachi emerged from the rubble to hold the King of Iron Fist Tournament 5.
Trivia
- Jinpachi's signature moves are his Unblockable Stun and the Fiery Devil Breath covering an entire line. The Unblockable Stun only works on the opponent at close range, but when it hits, the opponent is sent into a hit animation that lasts about five seconds. The Fiery Devil Breath usually shoots one blast of fire out of Jinpachi's torso, but it occasionally shoots up to six blasts if the player is close enough while he is charging up the attack.
- Jinpachi's abnormally strong fighting skills and unfair tactics make him similar to fight to an SNK Boss. He borders on suffering from "SNK Boss Syndrome". He is also the first Tekken boss to rival the ones found in SNK games. His most notable cheap tactics being his Fiery Devil Breath (which can take off more than half of the player's health) and his unblockable stun move which he can use at any moment, which completely stops any of the player's moves before they have a chance to connect. Beating Jinpachi on your first credit is often based on luck as well as skill.
- Jinpachi's tough AI is made even more frustrating because of the fact that you must defeat him even in the Time Attack mode of the PlayStation 2 version. The player's result in Time Attack mode is made too random as Jinpachi can basically choose if he wants to win, depending on how many times Jinpachi does his unavoidable stun and double fireball moves. The boss is correctly left out of Survival mode however.
- Jinpachi used to be friends with Wang Jinrei, and as a last act of will, wrote a letter to him asking him to enter the King of Iron Fist Tournament 5 to stop the cursed Mishima bloodline.
- When in a battle, Jinpachi's body is surrounded by purple and magenta aura, and a large mouth with teeth appears in his abdomen.
- In Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection, Jinpachi has a different appearance - the most significant change being that he is covered in flames rather than purple/magenta energy. He also has some new moves, a triple uppercut combo is his most used.
- In most characters endings, after Jinpachi's defeat, his body dissolves into dust.
- In Kazuya's storyline, the battle-scarred fighter encounters Jinpachi and bows to show respect.
- Jinpachi's ending is that when an opponent discovers that he/she can't continue to battle him, the evil in him wells up, and he transforms further. As his mind was possessed even more, he reaches his final transformation.
- In Heihachi's storyline, there is a short cinimatic where Jinpachi transforms into his devil form.
- In Kazuya's ending, Jinpachi wakes up in Kazuya's arms, and Kazuya smiles at him and remembers happily training with him before he kills Jinpachi.
- In Wang's Tekken 2 ending, the gravestone he visits is the one he believes to have Jinpachi's body underneath. He pours an alcoholic drink over the gravestone which is referenced again in Wang's Tekken 5 ending as Jinpachi says "I wish we could have had one last drink together."
- No matter which character the player is, Jinpachi dies in every single ending. (Excluding his own.)
- It is possible to earn Jinpachi in Tekken 5, but it can only be unlocked using a cheat device.
