Joan Holmes (1935 - ), the founding president of The Hunger Project (a group founded by Werner ErhardPressman, Steven, Outrageous Betrayal: The dark journey of Werner Erhard from est to exile. New York: St. Martin's Press, 1993. ISBN 0312092962), served as one of 31 members on [Task Force 2 on Hunger] of the UN Millennium Project of 2000 - 2006. Holding a M.A. in psychology from San Francisco State Universityhttp://www.thp.org/people/jh.htm, Ms. Holmes worked as an educational consultant on projects such as the desegregation of the Seattle schools system, and as a consulting educational psychologist for Erhard Seminars Training (est) prior to establishing The Hunger Project in 1977.

Ms. Holmes has advocated gender-equality, local democracy and social mobilization for grassroots self-reliant development, having testified before Congress and numerous international conferences. She has worked in South Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America at both the grassroots and policy levels. She served as the principal author of the book Ending Hunger: An Idea Whose Time Has Come.

Erhard Seminars Training

According to [biographical notes] published on the Hunger Project website, Joan Holmes held a position as Lecturer and Supervisor at California State University, Hayward from 1971 to 1975. She subsequently served as a "consulting educational psychologist" for Erhard Seminars Training.
