Joe Garden

Joe Garden (b. 1970) is an American comedy writer currently writing for The Onion, for which he created the recurring characters Jim Anchower and Jackie Harvey.

Garden was born in Chicago, Illinois in an apartment above Simpson's Tavern, located on Western and Roosevelt, in 1970. He moved to a farm outside of Richland Center, Wisconsin. At 18, he moved to Madison, Wisconsin, to attend the University of Wisconsin-Madison and he eventually dropped out. In 1993, he was discovered by the assistant editor of the Onion at a downtown liquor store and asked to become a contributor. His very first article for the paper was the character Jim Anchower.

Garden also co-wrote the satirical book Citizen You! Helping Your Government Help Itself, with Mike Loew and Randy Ostrow.

Garden is currently actively campaigning to take over as host of Late Night with Conan O'Brien when Conan O'Brien leaves in 2009.

Garden currently resides in Brooklyn, New York with his wife.
