John Durkin was a Democratic U.S. Senator from New Hampshire from 1975 until 1980.

Durkin won the seat as a Democrat in a special election in 1975 that settled the disputed November 1974 race involving him and US Representative Louis Wyman, and served until his resignation several days before the expiration of his term, in December 1980. Prior to his election to the Senate, Durkin served as New Hampshire's Insurance Commissioner.

He was defeated for re-election in 1980 by Warren Rudman. He sought the state's other Senate seat in 1990, and won the Democratic Party nomination, but was defeated handily by Republican nominee, Rep. Bob Smith.
