John B. Goodenough

John B. Goodenough is an American professor of mechanical and electrical engineering at The University of Texas at Austin.

He graduated from Yale University in 1944, where he was a member of Skull and Bones.

In the late 1980s, the research team he led developed the technology that would later become the lithium ion battery. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and L'Academie des Sciences de L'Institut de France. He received the Japan Prize in 2001 for his discoveries of the materials critical to the development of lightweight rechargeable batteries.

He has authored more than 500 articles and five books.
