John Jameson (comics)

Encyclopedia : J : JO : JOH : John Jameson (comics)

John Jameson (a.k.a. Man-Wolf, Star-God) is a fictional character in the Marvel Universe. He debuted in Amazing Spider-Man #1.

Character history

John Jameson is the son of J. Jonah Jameson, the irascible, gruff publisher of the Daily Bugle. Initially an astronaut, he was first seen being saved by Spider-Man when his craft malfunctioned on re-entry, something that did nothing to endear the wall-crawler to his father.

On a later mission, Jameson was infected with a virus that gave him super-strength, but strained his body and mind. He was forced to wear a strength-restraining "Jupiter suit" and battled Spider-Man at his father's urging before recovering.

Still later, Jameson became possessed by an other-dimensional ruby, which transformed him into the mindless Man-Wolf, and fought Spider-Man in this form. He was later taken to the dimension the ruby originated from, where he retained his mind in Man-Wolf form and became known as the Star-God. He later returned to Earth, sans ruby.

Despite this, he remains friends with Spider-Man, and often tries to convince his father to "let up on him." He spent some time as Ravencroft Head of Security and briefly dated its director Dr. Ashley Kafka.

He is currently She-Hulk's fiancé, and promotion suggest they are to be wed in She-Hulk #10, with a possible re-appearance of Man-Wolf. The Marvel Westerns: Two-Gun Kid one-shot has Two-Gun Kid referring to She-Hulk as Jennifer Walters-Jameson.

Civil War

In She-Hulk (vol. 2) #8 (July, 2006), John finally asked the She-Hulk to marry him. He also has been revealed to be helping Captain America, while he (Captain America) is in hiding.

Alternate Versions

MC2

In the alternate-future known as MC2, John Jameson married Dr. Ashley Kafka and they had a son, Jack. Jack became the costumed adventurer known as The Buzz.

Ultimate

In the Ultimate Marvel universe, J. Jonah Jameson made reference to his dead astronaut son, called him a "true hero". Jonah doesn't name his son, so it may not be John, but does not say he has any other kids. How exactly he died has not been revealed. In Ultimate Spider-man #95 (Ultimate Morbius arc) we may have our first glimpse of Ultimate Manwolf as a wolf appears slugging Spider-man next to Morbius. If it has any connection with Jameson has yet to be revealed.
