Jonathan Vincent "Jon" Voight (born December 29, 1938) is an Academy Award winning American actor. He was born in Yonkers, New York to a Czech father and an English American mother. Voight graduated from The Catholic University of America in 1960, having studied art. He received an best actor Oscar Award for his performance in the film Coming Home.
He has also been nominated for an Academy Award for his performances in the films Midnight Cowboy, Runaway Train and "Ali". He has also won a small cult following after a guest appearance on TV show Seinfeld in which he bites the character Kramer on the arm.
Background
Voight's brother is singer/songwriter, Chip Taylor.Voight married the French-Canadian actress Marcheline Bertrand on December 12, 1971. The couple had two children, actress Angelina Jolie and James Haven. Voight and Bertrand separated in 1976, and divorced in 1978.
Voight said on The O'Reilly Factor that he was a practicing Roman Catholic, and has recently played the lead role in a mini-series on the life of Pope John Paul II, receiving an Emmy nomination for his performance.
He has made several appeals through the media to contact his estranged daughter, Angelina Jolie, so that he can become an active grandfather. [link]
