Jorge Andrade (pron. IPA: /'ʒɔɾʒ(ɨ) ɐ̃'ðɾað(ɨ)/), full name Jorge Manuel Almeida Gomes de Andrade, (born April 9, 1978) is a football defender who plays for RC Deportivo La Coruña and is one of Corunas star players. Acclaimed as one of the best centre-backs in the world, Andrade has been courted by numerous clubs on different occasions, including Chelsea, Liverpool and Inter Milan. Having been part of the Portugal national team at the 2002 FIFA World Cup and Euro 2004, Andrade has established himself as an excellent defender at international level. He has scored 3 goals in 43 caps as of December 2005. Unfortunately for him, he is set to miss the 2006 World Cup due to a knee injury; his presence will be sorely missed by the national team.
