Joseon

Joseon (조선, 朝鮮, also Chosŏn) is a name for Korea, as used in the following cases:
- The first Korean kingdom Gojoseon was then known as Joseon.
- Korea was named Joseon in the Korean language during the Joseon Dynasty
- Korea under Japanese rule was named Joseon (or more accurately, the Japanese version Chōsen).
- North Korea today refers to Korea as a whole, or sometimes just North Korea, as Chosŏn in the Korean language.
It is also used in the names of two prominent newspapers: the South Korean Chosun Ilbo and the pro-North Choson Sinbo of Japan.
