Julia Stanley Lennon (died on July 15, 1958) was the mother of John Lennon. She was married to Alf Lennon and John was their only child together, and she later had three daughters with two other men. After World War II her husband left and she gave John to her sister Mimi Smith and her husband George Smith to raise, but she frequently visted them. She was killed on July 15, 1958 when she was struck down by a drunk driver infront of the house (251 Menlove Avenue where Mimi and John lived. This moment would traumatise her then teenage son, and haunt him for the rest of his life. John's first son, Julian is named for her. She was descended from Thomas, Lord Stanley (c.1435–1504), who dominated the Liverpool and Chester regions and who commanded a wing of the army which overthrew Richard III at Bosworth Field in August 1485.
