KGRL

KGRL is a non-profit non-commercial internet radio station that plays all female artist mixed-genre, easy-listening, flower-powered hits from past to present. KGRL is listener supported and that means KGRL is free of advertisements. KGRL uses MP3 SHOUTcast streaming technology, Windows Media Audio through Advanced Systems Format (.asf), RealAudio through Real Audio Metadata (.ram) and aacPlus.

The station started on May 7, 2006 as a test broadcast that eventually led to a full broadcast several days after the acquisition of license and royalty coverage. KGRL is currently signed up with [Loudcity] for the license which makes them 100% legal internet streaming radio station. Their server is currently located in New Jersey, USA but their stream is being featured all over the world.

KGRL is not an acronym but just a name for a radio station that represents the feminine side of music. It is like saying "k-girl" but one that pertains to the type of music they play and not to limit or define exclusivity for female listeners. Sometimes even the most hardcore males needs a breather from the heaviness of what they always listen to and they provide the best alternative without sucking on mainstream pop radio.

The songs played falls in a wide variety of genre, mostly alternative, jazz, pop, folk, rock, trip-hop, classic, and even japanese pop. Artists range from popular mainstream to obscure ones.

KGRL is streamed as follows:

MP3 Encoder - [192kbps], [128kbps], [24kbps], and AAC+ Encoder - [64Kbps] and [32kbps].

Flower-powered radio

KGRL uses the floral theme because of the type of songs that are played. Feminine without being exclusive to female listeners; sweet without being sugary - just the right amount of sweetness; cool(est) without even trying; and nice as it also is cutesy but not going overboard silly... and so, what better to represent their station than a flower.

They use a modified version of shoutbox, that they call "Flowerbox", to encourage an immediate interaction between the listeners and their crew. They also use it to gather their song requests.

The station is currently being handled, so far, by two personalities: Mystyrose and Mikey.

Flower-powered artist of the month

The Flower-powered artist of the month is the station's way of giving information and the spotlight to the artists included in their repertoire/playlist.
