Košarkaški Klub Cibona (English: Cibona Basketball Club), also known as Cibona VIP due to sponsorship of Croatian mobile phone network VIPnet, is a basketball club based in Zagreb, Croatia. It competes in the Croatian League and the Adriatic League, and is also a regular participant in the Euroleague.
The most successful Croatian basketball club Cibona was founded in 1946 as Sloboda (Freedom). But in the next cuople of years the club changed the name for many times, form Sloboda to SD Zagreb (Sports Community Zagreb), Vihor (Whirlwind), Polet (Enthusiasm) to finally come to the name Lokomotiva (Locomotive) which was in use for the next 25 years.
It was November 1975 when the basketball part of the club split with the Sport's society Lokomotiva, going its own way as a club under the name Cibona what on the Latin (cibus bonus) means good food. Namely, four gigants from the food industry, Kraš, Franck, Badel and Voće, joined under that name and became main sponsors of the club.
With a trophy case that includes at least one piece of hardware from each of the last five decades, there is no denying that Cibona Zagreb represents consistent success in European basketball.
