KLSD is a progressive talk radio station, the San Diego home for Air America Radio and for Ed Schultz. Local programming includes their morning show, Stacy Taylor.
The station was previously known as KPOP, playing adult standards, and KGB before that. KGB was a strong player in the San Diego AM Top 40 race in the 1960s, featuring the Boss Radio format. Its FM sister station, KGB-FM, was an early adopter of the album oriented rock format. KGB-FM still plays classic rock on 101.5 MHz.
In August 2005, KLSD's owners filed with the FCC to increase the power from 5,000 watts to 50,000 watts day and night. The station would share towers at the KSDO transmitter site in Santee. Their '50,000 watt permit' has not been approved by the FCC. According to [link], they stated that KLSD has applied for a license to broadcast at 50 kWs.
