KPVI
Encyclopedia : K : KP : KPV : KPVI
KPVI is the local NBC affiliate for Idaho Falls and Pocatello, Idaho. It broadcasts an analog signal on channel 6, and a digital signal on channel 23. The station is owned by Sunbelt Communications Company.
KPVI's transmitter is located on a mountain top just East of Pocatello, along with its sister station KFXP. This location was chosen because of possible interference from KIVI television in Nampa, Idaho which also broadcasts on channel 6 and at one time were sister stations (hence the roman numerals) with the same affiliation (ABC, until 1996). KPVI broadcasts its analog signal at 100KW.
KPVI programming is also seen in Jackson, Wyoming on full-service repeater KJWY, broadcasting on channel 2. KJWY has the distinction of being the lowest-powered full-service television station in the United States, at only 178 watts. It also tied CJBN-TV channel 13 of Kenora, Ontario, also at 178 watts, for being the lowest-powered television station on a regular license in North America. However, CJBN originates its own programming, while KJWY is merely a repeater.
