KXPT-FM 97.1 ("The Point") is a classic rock radio station out of Las Vegas owned by Lotus Broadcasting Corporation Former Calls are KYRK, KEER, KORK.

History

KORK-FM began broadcasting in Las Vegas on the 97.1 frequency from the mid 1970's till 1982. KORK-FM was an Adult Standards station.

In 1982, KORK-FM switched to the sleepy KEER-FM. KEER-FM was never able to outlast it's competitor KXTZ 94.1 FM.

In 1984, KEER-FM became KYRK-FM . They were mostly a CHR/Top 40 radio station. Known as "Y97" from 1984-1986 and then "Power 97". The station was famous for its "Tuki Tuki Bird", a sound which signals listeners to call in to win a prize.

KYRK-FM lasted about nine years before switching to 97.1 "The Point" in 1993. "The Point 97-1" carried an adult album alternative rock format that was abandoned a year earlier by KEYV-FM 93.1, which changed it's format to "Young Country "Y93". It was great listening to a station like "The Point" across the desert (You can pick up this station from Barstow, CA north CA Hwy 15 across southern Nevada and into Utah) that played a diverse lineup from Heart to Warren Zevon and The Cowboy Junkies to Cheryl Crow. In 1998, KXPT decided to concentrate it's programming on classic rock and dropped adult album alternative to become strictly "Classic Hits - 97.1 The Point" which is still today.
