KZPT has always been an adult contemporary type of format. Thoughout most of its time, it ran under the name "1041 The Point" and played a lot more '80s than most adult contemporary stations. The station was doing well and getting good ratings up and did a good job separating itself from KMXZ's audience until about 2004. This was sort of a "blooming" time for stations flipping to adult contemporary formats. KWMT did so in 2003 and KSZR did so in November 2004 which really weakened The Point's audience. Some people that used to listen to KZPT moved to KWMT's "The Mountain" or KSZR's "BOB FM". By 2005 their ratings were suffering so badly that there were various rumors of format changings. Some rumors said KZPT would flip to an hurban format and others said they were flipping to a country format. Then in 2006 KZPT changed into "Z 1041". Their playlist is still a majority of what "The Point" used to play, only taking out the '80s music and adding more alternative rock. Z 1041 is getting slightly better ratings but rumors still afloat that they will flip to a completely different format.
