Karl Engelmann

Karl Engelmann (born March 11, 1974, Tinley Park, Illinois) is the lead guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter for Asheville-based band Mother Vinegar. He was also a founding member and bassist of popluar midwest band Ali Baba's Tahini, which featured Umphrey's McGee guitarist Jake Cinninger.

Engelmann is best known for his songwriting contributions to the Umphrey's McGee catalog, which include "Kabump," "Syncopated Strangers," "Got Your Milk (Right Here)," "Bright Lights," "Resolution," and "Partyin' Peeps."

After leaving Ali Baba's Tahini in 1999, Engelmann relocated to the North Carolina mountains and joined reggae group The Natti Lovejoys as a bassist.

After recording a large number of solo demos over the next few years, Engelmann co-founded Mother Vinegar with drummer Kevin Cassels in 2005. The band released their debut album in December of that year. On the album, Engelmann plays guitar, sitar, bass, percussion, melodica, organ, trumpet, and vocals.

Engelmann is also a dietery chef and artist.
