Kawanishi (川西市; -shi) is a city located in Hyogo, Japan. The city was founded on August 1, 1954.
As of 2003, the city has an estimated population of 156,619 and the density of 2,930.74 persons per km². The total area is 53.44 km².
It is located in the northwestern part of the Kansai Region, about 5 km from Osaka Itami Airport. The Inagawa River runs through Kawanishi.
