The movie is also known as Payer of Promises, The Given Word and The Promise in the United States.
Plot
Zé do Burro (Leonardo Villar) is a very poor man from Nordeste. His most prized possession is a donkey. When his donkey falls terminally ill, Zé makes a promise to God: if his donkey recovers, he will carry a cross (like Jesus Christ) all the way from his farm to the cathedral of Salvador. Upon the recover of his donkey, Zé leaves on his journey. He makes it all the way to the cathedral, but when he gets there he has to face the priest, which refuses to accept the cross once he hears the reason for such sacrifice.
