"Kewl" is internet slang for the word "cool". People whose native language is Swedish often misinterpret the word to mean fun due to its similarities with the Swedish word kul.

The word has also become a derogatory term for a person who engages in activities that could harm oneself and/or others.

This term was seen originally in many text based games, such as MUD, MUSHs, or MOOs, as early as 1994.

The term is also the name of a VLE environment developed mainly in Africa [link]
