Khrabrovo Airport is located 24km north of Kaliningrad, east off the Zelenogradsk highway. The airport, part of which is still military, is a bare landing strip with few frills for passengers. Aeroflot, DAT - Danish Air Transport, Belavia, Ural Airlines are the only commercial carriers. The International terminal is 3km from the Domestic terminal.
History
- 1922 - Joint Russian-German joint venture “Deruluft” starts flights on first scheduled international route Koenigsberg-Moscow. Airplanes are flown by Russian and German pilots.
- 1945 - Airport is transferred to Civil Air Fleet of USSR. In 1946 city is renamed Kaliningrad
- 1961 - Joint Air Squadron formed at the basis of airport and airline
- 1977 - Operations ofTupolev-134begin
- 1979 - Passenger terminal is built in Khrabrovo
- 1988 - Tupolev-154s begin operations to Kaliningrad
- 1992 - Enterprise separates fromVnukovoproduction association and becomes independent entity
- 1993 - First scheduled international flights begin. TwoTupolev-154s are purchased
- 1997 - Air enterprise is renamed “KaliningradAvia”
- 2001 - Air enterprise is in receivership
- 2002 - Change of ownership structure.Transformation into Joint Stock Company
- 2003-04 - Development of airline concept and business plan 2003, July –Visa-free transit by ground transport via Lithuania is discontinued
- 2004-July – Construction jobs begin in relation to building of new passenger terminal
- 2004-October – Beginning of reconstruction of runway, apron, navigation equipment
- 2005-January – Ground transit via Lithuania is possible only for Russian citizens with “international” passport
- 2005-February – Received first Western aircraft
- 2005-June – Last Russian aircraft withdrawn from operations
- 2005-June – Air enterprise renamed “KD Avia”
- 2005-2006- Revival of airline. Introduction of new aircraft types. Provide citizens of Kaliningrad region with access to Moscow, St. Petersburg. Expand route network from Kaliningrad. Return to historical passenger traffic levels. Enter new routes from Moscow, other cities of Russia.
