Sutherland has been the frequent object of tabloid gossip, and has a persistent reputation as a hard drinker and carouser.
Several episodes of 24 have allegedly been rewritten to work around minor injuries Sutherland sustained when partying. In an interview with the London Daily Telegraph, Sutherland said, "I can't deny half the stuff that's been written about me has been true. I've done some stupid things. You have to take responsibility, go, 'That was embarrassing,' and move forward as best you can."
Sutherland dated his "24" co-star Reiko Aylesworth between 24 season 2 and season 3. At an after-party, Reiko had slipped on spilled drinks and resulted in a head injury. Kiefer rushed to her side and stayed with her at the hospital. Paparazzis spotted him visiting Reiko at her home. From a news article, he supposedly fell in love with her after that.
Recently Sutherland and Aylesworth may be back to dating each other again according to the NY Post. (2006) The two had been spotted together around Los Angeles, CA. [link]
