Kirby Adventure GCN is an upcoming Kirby video game for the Nintendo GameCube developed by HAL Laboratory. Little is known about the game at this time, except that the story revolves around Kirby trying to reclaim his stolen Warp Star from King Dedede. While it seemed that it might have been canceled as no information about it had been revealed since 2005; it will be coming out in Japan 2006 in December according to Nintendo's Japanese website.
The levels will be rendered in 3D, but the game play will remain a side-scroller, much like in Kirby 64. The game will utilize a new attack system, which allows Kirby to ride on the backs of up to three other characters. Those characters will also be playable by other human players.
Kirby can get partners from abilities or enemies, like in Kirby Super Star (as seen in videos on Gamespot.com).
The game was announced at E³ 2005, but so little information has been revealed since then that rumors have sprung forth that it has been put on hold or even cancelled, though a 2006 release date is still very possible. The game was absent from the show floor at E³ 2006. Alternatively, some fans have speculated that it may be released on Nintendo's Wii, or that the game was converted into the recently revealed .
These speculations can be put to rest, because on May 26, 2006, IGN released an article which states that a number of games, including a "generically labled Kirby game" will be released for the GameCube. The article also states that this information was gathered from the Japanese release list found on the corporate site of the [Japanese Nintendo webpage].
Seventeen powers have been confirmed to be in the game. These powers are Beam, Bomb, Clean, Cutter, Fighter, Fire, Hammer, Ice, Parasol, Plasma, Stone, Sword, Tornado, Water (an ability that was only seen in the ), Wheel, and Wing. It is rumored that the Jet ability might be in the game, too.
Kirby Adventure GCN has not been cancelled nor replaced by the upcoming Kirby: Squeak Squad (DS). Although information is scarce; the Japanese version of this game has been announced for the end of 2006, while in Nintendo Power this Kirby game shows up as an Upcoming Title or one being developed in Nintendo's monthly updated list.
