King Dedede

King Dedede

King Dedede

The self-proclaimed king of Dream Land, and Kirby's rival. He has appeared in all of the Kirby games except for Kirby and the Amazing Mirror. While not exactly evil, Dedede is quite greedy, and his penchant for stealing Dream Land's food or other resources often puts him into conflict with Kirby. He's in charge of the hordes of monsters Kirby has to fight through in each of the games, and in most games he's the boss enemy of the final normal level. Due to intense training he undertook after his first defeat at the hands of Kirby, Dedede has sucking powers similar to those that Kirby possesses, able to inhale Kirby and spit him out, as well as inhaling air to fly around. Dedede's also quite heavy, and likes to try to jump into the air and smash down onto Kirby. He also fights with a large wooden hammer which he attempts to pound Kirby with.

While he was the final enemy of the original Kirby's Dream Land, in most games after Dedede is defeated he turns out to be misguided or possessed, and a secret additional level is made available containing the real end-of-game boss monster. Dedede often helps Kirby access this secret level, usually by spitting him into space.

In Kirby's Adventure, King Dedede was believed to be destroying Dream Land as an evil act, and Kirby had to find the seven pieces of the Star Rod that King Dedede broke up and gave to six of his allies to prevent anyone from reforming it, keeping the final piece himself. Kirby fought and defeated him, and while King Dedede tried his hardest to stop Kirby from returning it to its rightful place atop the Fountain of Dreams, Kirby returned it anyway, releasing Nightmare. King Dedede actually took the Star Rod out and broke it in order to prevent this from happening. He inhaled Kirby, and launched him into the air with the Star Rod in order to defeat him. Dedede has also appeared as a playable helper in Kirby 64, where he could carry Kirby and break through walls. In , which is basically a remake of Kirby's Adventure, King DeDeDe has the exact same role.

Dedede was later cast as the regular antagonist of the anime series, where he often ordered monsters from Nightmare Enterprises, believing that Kirby could lose to them and become unpopular with the Cappies. However, in , he seems to be bent on helping Kirby save the day (as he is a playable character). The clone made in the game, created by Drawcia, was not. Kirby and the player had to work together to guide the cart through a race, and they had to beat King Dedede in the race in order to proceed past his boss level.

King Dedede and Meta Knight are unlockable in Kirby Air Ride where he rides one of the one-wheeled bikes and wields a hammer at all times, but can't take other abilities.

Meta Knight

Meta Knight
Meta Knight

Meta Knight could be described as Kirby's rival, but he is actually an ally as shown in the anime and the later games. When he fights Kirby, it's usually for his honor. He is not really a villain. In fact, the only reason why he tried to conquer Dream Land in Kirby Super Star was so he could end the "lazy lifestyles" of the Dreamlanders and create a sense of order for them (something that King Dedede definitely wasn't providing to his people).

Meta Knight, the masked swordsman, first appears as the last boss before Dedede in Kirby's Adventure, occasionally showing up in earlier levels either help by throwing invincible candy in Kirby's Adventure or to attack Kirby with his minions. Meta Knight seems to prefer that Kirby duel him with a sword, as it is provided for him at the beginning of their battles, although in Kirby Super Star it is possible to fight Meta Knight without the sword (if you wait long enough without touching the sword, Meta Knight will start the fight out of impatience, as the ship is going down in flames at the time of the battle.)

Most of the time when Meta Knight is beaten, his mask falls apart to reveal his face, which looks just like that of Kirby's. The games themselves have never explained this mystery, although the closest explanation comes in the anime series, where it is revealed that Meta Knight is a Star Warrior, just like Kirby.

Meta Knight was playable in the 2002 release of the Kirby game '. In Kirby Air Ride, Meta Knight could be unlocked in the Air Ride and City Trial modes when certain conditions were met. He was also playable in '. He was the fastest playable character, and could slice the enemy up with his sword when he is dashing. However, he has the lowest health. Meta Knight is also a playable character in the upcoming game Super Smash Bros. Brawl for the Nintendo Wii.

Dark Matter

Dark Matter
Dark Matter

Dark Matter is an entity of pure evil, controlled by 0. First appearing as the secret final boss in Kirby's Dream Land 2, in most of the games he turns out to be the true final enemy. An ooze-like substance that usually manifests as a large black ball with a single eye at its center, Dark Matter has the power to possess creatures and turn them evil (usually Dedede and his minions), and it can even mutate characters it has a particularly powerful hold over (such as Dedede in Kirby's Dreamland 3). Impervious to normal attacks, Dark Matter can only be fought if Kirby manages to collect all the pieces of the game's special magical item (such as a rainbow sword or heart rod) needed to defeat him. When fought, Dark Matter has a variety of forms, and Kirby usually fights it in a mid-air battle in outer space over Pop Star.

0

0 is the resident universal dominator who serves as the ultimate evil in Kirby's universe. He made his first appearance at the end of Kirby's Dreamland 3, and has since returned in Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards as the game's secret final boss, this time depicted as the ghost of 0, with wings and a halo. In this form, he is known as 0² (zero squared). It is unclear whether his name is pronounced 'oh,' or 'zero.'

Dark Mind
Dark Mind

Dark Mind is the final villain of Kirby and the Amazing Mirror. Whether or not Dark Mind is a mirror image of Dark Matter, Nightmare or is some completely new villain altogether is debatable, although the form of the creature is similar to Dark Matter, since Dark Mind has mirrors surrounding him instead of globs.

Gooey

Gooey
Gooey

Gooey is Kirby's best friend. He first appeared in Kirby's Dream Land 2, and could be found in the various bags in the game under certain conditions. In that game, his only function was to restore Kirby's health, but in Kirby's Dream Land 3 he was a playable character. He is essentially a small blue blob of goo with a silly expression on his face. Gooey has similar powers to Kirby (except that he licks up enemies), and a second player can take control of him while the first player controls Kirby. In a single player game, Gooey can be summoned as a computer-controlled ally. He also has an interest in Chu Chu, but through her actions this has shown to be seemingly unrequitted. He's apparently a non-evil version of Dark Matter, and during the game's final battle in space, Gooey's flying form is similar to the first form of Dark Matter.

Rick

Kirby's pal Rick
Kirby's pal Rick

Rick is a hamster that aides Kirby in many of his later adventures, beginning with Kirby's Dream Land 2. Rick is the land ally, while Coo and Kine are the sky and water allies, and Kirby can ride on him and go even faster. Rick has the ability to climb walls, and can alter the attack you're using. In Kirby's Dream Land 3, Rick returns with his two friends Coo and Kine, but is now accompanied by Nago, Chu Chu and Pitch. In , he can be transformed into by Kirby when he has the Stone-Cutter ability. In Kirby's Star Stacker and its sequel, the player dropped them to sandwich stars and gain points. All three characters were also featured semi-regularly on the anime series. Interestingly, in the English dub, Rick speaks with an Australian accent.

Coo

Coo
Coo

Coo is an owl that aides Kirby in many of his later adventures, beginning with Kirby's Dream Land 2. Coo assisted Kirby in his quest by having Kirby fly around on him, and helped by altering Kirby's abilities to suit him whenever Kirby's riding on him. Coo returns in Kirby's Dream Land 3 with his friends Rick and Kine, but is now joined by Nago, Chu Chu and Pitch. In , Kirby, when using a Stone-Cutter ability, can turn into Coo. In Kirby's Star Stacker and its sequel, the player dropped them to sandwich stars and gain points. All three characters were also featured semi-regularly on the anime series. Coo is a female in the Japanese version of the anime series.

Kine

Kine
Kine

Kine is a sunfish that aides Kirby in many of his later adventures, beginning with.Kirby's Dream Land 2. By riding Kine, he can gain new abilities to help him in his quest, such as swim, and he can even take Kirby's abilities and do something new with them. Rick, Coo, and Kine are a hamster, owl, and sunfish team that aides Kirby in many of his later adventures, beginning with Kirby's Dream Land 2. In Kirby's Star Stacker and its sequel, the player dropped them to sandwich stars and gain points. All three characters were also featured semi-regularly on the anime series, where Kine developed romantic feelings for Tiff, despite the fact that she was not a fish like him. He later appears in Kirby's Dream Land 3 with his friends Rick and Coo, but is now joined by Nago, Chu Chu and Pitch. With one of Kirby's Stone-Cutter abilities in , Kirby can transform into all six of his animal friends, and gain a new ability for each form. By riding one of his animal friends, Kirby unlocks new combinations of powers determined by the specific animal friend and the enemy power Kirby is currently using.

Nago

Nago is a cat that appears in Kirby's Dream Land 3, joining up with the oldies, Coo, Rick and Kine. He rolls Kirby around like a ball, as opposed to Kirby riding on him like he does with Rick. Nago never appeared as himself in any other games. In , Kirby can use a Stone-Cutter ability to transform into Nago. He has yet to appear in the anime.

Chu Chu

Chu Chu is a pink octopus that appears in Kirby's Dream Land 3, joining up with the oldies, Coo, Rick and Kine. She rides on Kirby or Gooey's head, and can do various abilities. She seems to have a crush on Gooey. Chu Chu never appeared as herself in any other games. In , Kirby can use a Stone-Cutter ability to transform into a replica of Chu Chu. She has yet to appear in the anime. It's interesting to note that her first appearance may have technically been in the English versions of Kirby's Dream Land 2, where a Japanese cameo from the Disk System was replaced by a female version of Gooey. This may have been an early design of Chu Chu, or perhaps what she was based on.

Pitch

Pitch is a small bird that appears in Kirby's Dream Land 3, joining up with the oldies, Coo, Rick and Kine. Pitch sits atop Kirby's head and can carry him for a short amount of time. Pitch never appeared as himself in any other games. In , Kirby can use a Stone-Cutter ability to transform into Pitch. He has yet to appear in the anime.

Adeleine

Adeleine in '.

Adeleine in .

Adeleine, also known as Ado, is a human girl who is a painter. Her first appearance is in Kirby's Dream Land 3, where she is the boss at the end of Level 4, Cloudy Park. She paints four bosses (Ice Dragon, Sweet Stuff, Mr. Shine & Mr. Bright, and Kracko) that Kirby has to fight before he can fight Adeleine head-on. When he does, all Kirby has to do is slide into her. If Kirby has all the Heart Stars from that level after beating her, Adeleine will paint three things for your pleasure. In that game, many fans refer to Adeleine as a boy, since she looks a lot like a boy in that game, but the one in Kirby's Dream Land 3 and the one in are in fact the same character.

In Kirby 64, Adeleine's appearance has been changed to make her look more like a girl than she did in Kirby's Dreamland 3. At the end of Pop Star Stage 2, Adeleine is once again possessed by Dark Matter, and this time, Kirby first must defeat five enemies (an N-Z, a Bronto Burt, a Mariel, a Mumbies, and some weird blurry unnamed enemy) and then two bosses (this time being Ice Dragon and Dark Matter). Afterwards, the same strategy applies to her on her own as it did in Kirby's Dream Land 3. After she is free from Dark Matter, Adeleine travels with Kirby for the rest of his adventure. Adeleine will paint objects to help Kirby out in his adventures, plus, sometimes she'll also paint clues for a puzzle in the next room where if solved successfully, Kirby can get a Crystal Shard.

Ribbon

Ribbon

Ribbon is a pink-haired fairy who appeared in Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards. She assisted Kirby all the way through by collecting the shards of her home planet's precious Crystal after Dark Matter tries to steal it. She is noted for being the closest Kirby's ever got to a romantic interest. In the good ending, Ribbon kisses Kirby on the cheek at an award ceremony on her home planet, Ripple Star (after which Kirby blushes, dances around, and then trips, tumbling down a flight of stairs).

Cloaked Nightmare

The Cloaked Nightmare
The Cloaked Nightmare

Nightmare is the final boss of Kirby's Adventure, and begins the series' trend of having a boss after the defeat of King Dedede in many games. Apparently, Nightmare infests the Fountain of Dreams in order to give the people of Dreamland nightmares, but King Dedede foils his plans by stealing the Star Rod (the Fountain's source of power). At the end of the game, Kirby defeats Dedede and restores the rod to the fountain, despite King Dedede's efforts convince him not to, and Kirby unwittingly releases Nightmare. Dedede sucks up Kirby and the Star Rod, and blasts the two of them into space to fight the Nightmare. Initially, Nightmare manifests as a star-filled ball of space that fires stars at Kirby, but after Kirby and Nightmare crash on the moon, he transforms into a large-chinned, vampire-like wraith (complete with cape and horns), sometimes known as "Nightmare Wizard", for the game's final battle. In this form, he continues to fire stars at Kirby, and is only vulnerable to a Star Rod blast fired into the staticy, glowing whirlwind of energy that makes up his main body. Destroying Nightmare also blasts a decent-sized chunk out of Popstar's moon. Despite having only appeared in one game, the Nightmare was the ultimate villain of the anime, where he ran an evil monster-manufacturing corporation known as Nightmare Enterprises (Holy Nightmare Company in Japanese). Nightmare is the most powerful of the Kirby villains and he can "wreak havoc" and cause tormenting CHAOS on everything in the universe.

-->

Marx

Marx is a resident of Dream Land. Unlike the rest of Kirby's people, Marx has a very distinct appearance, with a big jester's cap, large clown shoes, and demented-looking facial features. He moves about by bouncing on a large ball. In Milky Way Wishes, the final chapter of Kirby Super Star, Marx deceives Kirby into traveling to the artificial wish-granting comet Nova, ostensibly to use it to stop the Sun and the Moon of Pop Star from fighting with each other. In reality, Marx wants ultimate power, and when Kirby revives Nova, Marx knocks him out of the way before he can make a wish, and wishes to rule Popstar. Nova transforms Marx into a larger, more powerful form, and begins floating towards Popstar. The Sun and Moon (possibly Mr. Shine and Mr. Bright) join together to prevent Nova from reaching the planet, and Kirby battles Marx on the comet's surface. Marx flies around and has a variety of powerful attacks, including freezing breath, rapid-growing vines, firing cutters from his wings, firing a powerful energy beam from his mouth, and transforming into a black hole, but ultimately Kirby is able to destroy both him and Nova. After Marx makes his wish, it is speculated that Marx becomes the strongest being in the universe, even stronger than Dark Matter, although is not as big of a threat, because Dark Matter can never truly die.

Drawcia

Drawcia

Drawcia

Drawcia is the final villain of . She was formed inside of a painting, and Kirby must use the Magic Paintbrush to get around the painting, and ultimately defeat her. Her high-ranking minions are clones of King Dedede, Paint Roller and Kracko, who she created with her paint powers. She can also summon up enemies and spikes, shoot fireballs, and shoot miniature versions of herself at you.

Drawcia Soul
Drawcia Soul

Her soul is a giant ball of paint, which can do many things, including release red, yellow and blue creatures that do different things when left alone. She can also turn into a fireball and fly across the screen, release rainbowy sickles, and split up into an uncountable number of paint blobs which you have to protect Kirby from.

Squeak Squad

Squeak Squad

Squeak Squad

The Squeak Squad is a mysterious group of thieves that appears in the new upcoming Kirby DS adventure game, Kirby: Squeak Squad. They all look a lot like rats or mice, and their leader seems to be a magician-type rat. They are the main opponents of that game, and they're trying to steal treasures hidden all over Dream Land, so Kirby has to get them first. Not much will be known about them until the game is released. They are known as Dorocche in Japanese.

Dark Meta Knight

Dark Meta Knight
Dark Meta Knight

Dark Meta Knight appears in Kirby and the Amazing Mirror as the boss in Radish Ruins (one of the areas in the game) and as one of the final bosses. He is simply a mirror version of Meta Knight.

Shadow Kirby

Shadow Kirby or Dark Kirby appears in Kirby and the Amazing Mirror as a minor character who appears once in the areas. If you hurt him, he will leave behind an item and walk out of the screen. He is just like Kirby only black, which is similar to the look of Dark Meta Knight. In the final battle against Dark Mind, if you have lost the Master Sword, Meta Knight's powerful sword, Shadow Kirby throws it back to you from near the edge of the screen, then walks off again. It is later revealed that Shadow Kirby is not as evil as he looks.

Whispy Woods
Whispy Woods

Whispy Woods

Whispy Woods is a living tree known for usually being the first boss of most of the games. Kirby and the Amazing Mirror, surprisingly, does not feature him at all, but rather a very similar boss named King Golem, possibly his Mirror version. (Wood could be seen as the opposite of stone) Whispy's method of attack is shooting puffs of air and dropping apples, the latter of which Kirby can spit at him. Interestingly, the anime portrayed him as a good guy (thus improving the factor that Whispy is possessed in almost every single game he's in) and leader of a whole forest of living trees whom Dedede often tried to destroy in order to build a golf course.

Kracko

Kracko appears in most Kirby games as a level boss. He is a big white cloud with an eye in the center that floats around shooting lightning, dropping Hi-Jump enemies and Waddle Dees out of himself. In Kirby and the Amazing Mirror, he also drops raindrops, and instead of Hi-Jumps, he drops out Waddle Dees with parasols, which give the player the Parasol ability, Flamers, Burning Ability-bearing foes, and finally Twisters, whose ability is Tornado. A clone of Kracko, created by Drawcia, appears as a boss in , whose boss level was similar to a block breaking minigame, where Kirby flew around an area and the player had to use the Magic Paintbrush to create lines for Kirby to reflect off of in order to proceed to the next level.Appears in the anime as a lightning storm monster.

Paint Roller

Paint Roller
Paint Roller

Paint Roller (also known as Skainter) first appeared in Kirby's Adventure, in a small room with nothing but a floor, two platforms and four canvases. He wears a baseball cap and rollerskates, and rides around the room, drawing enemies to attack Kirby. He guarded the second fragment of the Star Rod, and was doing so to prevent Nightmare from being unleashed. He later appears in the remake of Kirby's Adventure, titled ', and then later appeared in ' as one of Drawcia's clones, in a boss level where the player had to help Kirby from being popped by using the Magic Paintbrush to finish all of his games. In Kirby and the Amazing Mirror, the magician Wiz fights in a very similar manner to Paint Roller, which means that Wiz is probably the mirror version of Paint Roller.Paint Roller also appears in the anime as a monster.

Lololo and Lalala

Lololo and Lalala
Lololo and Lalala

Lololo & Lalala are apparently "villainous" versions of the puzzle-solving duo who originally appeared as the stars of the Adventures of Lolo game trilogy that HAL had produced for the NES. Their first Kirby-related appearance was in the second boss battle of Kirby's Dream Land. However, the anime reached back to their former good guy status and featured them as confidants to Kirby. The anime changed their characters to "brother and sister" rather than the married couple as in the games. It also revealed that they were formerly a wimpy Nightmare-created monster named Lola, who was later split into two by a more powerful monster named Slice 'n Splice. Strangely, the English dub changed their names to Fololo & Falala, most likely because their original form, whose name would be changed to Fofa, had a rather feminine name despite clearly being a male.

Kaboola

Kaboola is a large blimp holding a Shotzo. Kirby fought this machine with an item that gave him infinite flight, and he attacked Kaboola with puffs of air from his mouth. Kaboola is only remembered in two games: Kirby's Dream Land and Kirby's Block Ball. In the latter, Kirby used the ball form given to him for the entire game and rammed Kaboola repeatedly.

Dynablade

Dynablade
Dynablade

Dynablade is a huge bird wearing red armor with a round blue stone on her chest. She first appears in the game Kirby Super Star where she appears as both friend and foe. In Dynablade, she is a boss that Kirby fights at the very end who is destroying Dream Land's crops, and the only boss in that game.

Dynablade's Chick
Dynablade's Chick

However, after the fight, Kirby sees that she was only ruining the crops so she could feed her chicks, so Kirby makes her happy by feeding them with apples from Whispy Woods and teaching them flying lessons. In Revenge of Meta Knight, for helping her chicks, Dynablade helps Kirby get back on board the Halberd. Dynablade also appears in Kirby Air Ride and the anime, and one of her chicks appears in that anime as well. Although a female, she is sometimes mistakenly referred to as a male. In Kirby Air Ride, she appears in City Trial Mode as one of the events, where she steals your powerups if you run into her. She is invincible all over her body except for her head, which you can hit to receive powerups (usually an All-up patch)

Heavy Lobster

Heavy Lobster is a giant robot with lobster claws that shoots out fire streams as well as miniature Heavy Lobsters and paint blobs, both of which Kirby can inhale (but not the fire streams) and spew back at it. For fun, Kirby can swallow the paint blobs for the rare Paint ability and use it to blind HL. When HL is blind, it turns from its normal yellow color to red. It is a member of Battleship Halberd's crew and a boss in Kirby Super Star's Revenge of Meta Knight, which is its first appearance. HL also appears in Milky Way Wishes as the boss of Mecheye. It appears in the anime as a laser-firing monster with a thick and hard to penetrate armor, but interestingly enough, the Ice ability works on it quite well. It was one of Nightmare's most powerful monsters, and also as a matter of fact, the final monster Nightmare sent on Kirby.

Mr. Shine & Mr. Bright

Mr. Shine & Mr. Bright are tag-team bosses first appearing in Kirby's Adventure at the end of Level 3, Butter Buildings. As their type suggests, they love to fight tag-team style, one in the air raining down or making stars for Kirby to spit out at the one on the ground, and one on the ground throwing projectiles or trying to ram into him. Kirby's Dream Land 2 is quite a popular appearance for both of them because of their famous eclipse attack, where they both come together causing Mr. Shine to shade a small part of the area, giving Kirby little time to run there as fast as he can before Mr. Bright attacks with his burning heat. After both are defeated, they crash into each other in the background, making a fireworks display. Adeleine also paints Mr. Shine & Mr. Bright at the end of Cloudy Park in Kirby's Dream Land 3.

Pix

Pix is a group of three rainbow-colored diamond-shaped crystals that appears in as the boss at the end of Rock Star. The three colors the Pix crystals come in are red, green, and blue. The fight Kirby has with Pix starts with the puffball riding up a circular elevator, where players have to help him avoid the energy spikes that the Pix crystals will attack him with. When the elevator reaches the top of the tower, Kirby will then be able to hurt the crystals.

Pix attacks Kirby with energy spikes, energy blasts, or flying around the arena as a group. Kirby can either attack the crystals with abilities or just spit the molecules at them. Hitting each of the crystals with a molecule that corresponds to its color does the most damage. For example, Kirby should hit the green crystal with green molecules. For every crystal that breaks after it takes enough damage no matter how many hits it takes, it becomes hollow and can't hurt Kirby anymore. It also sometimes causes Pix to change its methods of attacks. After all three are broken, they move to the center and blow up, giving Kirby their big Crystal Shard.

The Ice Dragon is a dinosaur/dragon thing that breathes not fire but ice and can make icicles rain on enemies and/or toss ice blocks at them. Both the icicles and ice blocks can be inhaled snd spewed back out at him. He can also charge while he's blowing ice, and jump around. He is a boss in Kirby's Dream Land 2 and a painting of Adeleine's in Kirby's Dream Land 3 and . Also appears in the anime as a monster that is the first living organism in Kirby's universe to bring winter to Dream Land.

Bonkers

Bonkers
Bonkers

Bonkers is a gorilla that wears purple armor and blue pants (they were black in classic Kirby games) and carries a hammer who first appears in Kirby's Adventure. He attacks with the hammer as well as exploding coconuts. In Kirby Super Star, Kirby can create a Bonkers helper from the Hammer ability that's incabable of tossing coconuts. In and Kirby and the Amazing Mirror, Bonkers appears as a mini-boss. By sucking up his coconut grenades and throwing them back at him, and sucking up stars he makes by smashing his hammer on the ground and spitting them at him, you defeat him. By sucking him up you get the hammer power. Bonkers also appears in the anime as a friendly character who used to live in the jungles until a circus caught him and had him perform various acts. Luckily for him, he watched one of the clowns watch his favorite show, which turned out to be Kirby! That's how Bonkers got inspired to meet Kirby in person, so he set off to find him. Bonkers is very polite and wants to find Kirby so he can train with him. Dedede of course does his best to mess things up for the ape, like having the NME salesman turn him into a monster, but things turn out okay, of course, and Bonkers leaves Dream Land to train on his own, but not before having several copies of a photo of him and Kirby next to each other taken on a camera.

Buggzy

Buggzy
Buggzy

Buggzy is a large beetle monster that is commonly found in Kirby games. It has the ability to fly up into the air and slowly hover down onto Kirby, shoot out small beetle creatures that go towards Kirby, and can fly across the ground and grab Kirby, flipping him over. Sucking Buggzy up results in getting the Suplex move, which allows you to pick up and flip/throw enemies around, but in Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland, he gives you Backdrop ability which is basically the same ability. He appears in the anime as a sword-wielding Monster.

Fred the Spanyard, one of the main characters of the Neglected Mario Characters sprite comic, is based off of this particular character.

Blocky

Mini-Blocky
Mini-Blocky

Blocky is a block of rock that appears in both Kirby's Dream Land 2 and 3 as a mini-boss that Kirby can inhale for the Stone ability. He attacks by either triple-jumping and then slamming down on the ground or charging walls; whatever he does, he makes little rocks for Kirby to inhale and fire back at him. His appearance is based on the Rocky enemies in the Adventures of Lolo series as well as other Eggerland games.

Blocky
Blocky

He appears in the anime as a massive stone sumo wrestler monster made up of smaller versions of him that bear a distinct resemblance to his actual form in the games. He is so heavy that Kirby cannot inhale him at first, but according to Meta Knight, his weight is not only his greatest strength but also his biggest weakness. Another monster that appears much later in the anime, Domestic Servant Robot, bears a distinct resemblance to Blocky's actual form in the games.

Jumper Shoot

Jumper Shoot is a lamp-looking monster that appears in both Kirby's Dream Land 2 and 3 as a mini-boss that Kirby can inhale for the Parasol ability. He attacks by kicking off his sandals and spinning around, which sometimes leaves him invulnerable for a few seconds. Kirby can inhale the sandals and spit them out at him. An interesting fact dates back to a rumor in one of the earliest Kirby sites ever Kirby H.Q., now known as Kirby Box, which states that Jumper Shoot actually used to be a member of the Mario Land theme park. The rumor also states that when Wario took over Mario Land, he put some Jumper Shoots under his spell, while some other Jumper Shoots found a warp pipe to Pop Star, after which when they got there, they were transformed into mini-bosses. It's unknown if either King Dedede or Dark Matter transformed the Jumper Shoots into mini-bosses, but it's safe to say that Jumper Shoot had a cameo appearance in , hence the rumor mentioned before. He is based on the legendary Japanese creature Karakasa. Another popular Kirby enemy that also made a cameo appearance in that game is Gordo, an invincible spiked ball enemy with eyes.

Chef Kawasaki

Chef Kawasaki
Chef Kawasaki

Chef Kawasaki, originally Cook Kawasaki, first appeared as a mini-boss in Kirby Super Star, and his method of attacks were themed to his occupation. By eating him, you gain the Cook power. Using the Cook power will cause any enemy or item to go into a pot, and after some cooking, they turn into food. The anime series featured him as Cappy Town's resident chef, and a rather unsuccessful one at that.

Cappy

The Cappies
The Cappies

Cappies originally appeared as weak enemies wearing mushroom tops over their heads. In the anime series, though, they were citizens of a town not far from Dedede's Castle.

Mumbies

Mumbies
Mumbies

Mumbies are floating bandaged balls that follow Kirby when he faces away from them (like the Boo's Mario faces). They cannot be inhaled, so they must be defeated with other methods. First appear in Kirby's Dream Land. In the extra game in Kirby's Dream Land, Mumbies are replaced by Skullers, which are like Mumbies but much faster. Skullers resemble the Skull enemies in the Adventures of Lolo series as well as other Eggerland games.

In the anime, Mumbies were created by Nightmare Enterprises and hidden in jars that were buried in different planets to locate and assassinate Star Warriors. King Dedede learns of this and tricks Professor Curio, a Cappy who runs an antique shop, into digging up one of the jars, and even writes a book later found in Curio's shop that says whoever finds Mumbies becomes rich - just to fool the Cappies. Also, Nightmare Enterprizes copied the idea from Dark Matter because Dark Matter used Mumbies in as useless henchmen.

Squishy

Squishy
Squishy

Squishy is a squid that can be found on both land and water. On land, he can merely hop around, or possibly fly, and can be annoying to many Kirby game players. First appears in Kirby's Dream Land. Appears in the anime as a spark-firing monster. His spark attacks are based off of the Master Green mini-boss in Kirby's Dream Land 2. He also takes a rare appearance in Kirby and the Amazing Mirror in a certain area.

Kabu

Kabu

Kabu

Kabu is a yellow rock that looks like an Easter Island moai whose first appearance is in Kirby's Dream Land. He has the magical ability to disappear and reappear. In the anime, Kabu is a giant ancient wise tiki who can see the past, the present, and the future. Kabu also serves as a hospital and protection for Warpstars and wounded Star Warriors like a big recovery room. There is more than one Kabu, and they're spread across the universe.

Knuckle Joe

Knuckle Joe
Knuckle Joe

Knuckle Joe's first appearance was as an enemy in Kirby Super Star, where he walks slowly but executes his fighting moves quickly. By swallowing him, you can gain the Fighter ability, which allows Kirby to knock out enemies with a punch and kick. The fighter ability returns in Kirby and the Amazing Mirror, although its posessor is not Knuckle Joe (since he doesn't appear in that game anyway) but Boxin (Dessie in the Japanese version), although in that game, it lets Kirby do a move similar to the Kamehameha attack used by Saiyans in the Dragon Ball series. Knuckle Joe returns in the upcoming Kirby GCN game, where he still gives Kirby the Fighter ability when swallowed. In both Kirby Super Star and Kirby Adventure GCN, Kirby can make a Knuckle Joe helper from the Fighter ability.

Knuckle Joe's most interesting appearance is in the anime. He is not a random monster but a fighter who is one of the only Guest Characters in the anime that have more than one episode appearance. He first appears in the episode, "Kirby's Duel with the Son" (a.k.a. Here Comes the Son), where he first comes to Dream Land looking to fight Kirby. It is according to him that he wants to destroy a powerful Star Warrior who killed his father, and King Dedede made him believe it was Kirby. However, he soon realizes he is after the wrong enemy when Meta Knight shows up and reveals that he is the one that Knuckle Joe seeks. As Meta Knight reveals to Knuckle Joe, his father was a Star Warrior who fought side by side with him until the Cloaked Nightmare sent his monsters to capture him and turn him into a monster. Meta Knight even proves to Joe that he was the warrior who killed his father by showing him his locket with his baby picture in it as a sign of his love. After Kirby mirrors him to make him realize his monstrous ways, Knuckle Joe decides to be on Kirby's side from now on. He's also a monster hunter, in which he takes on that occupation by tricking everyone into believing that he is a manager for Nightmare Enterprises in the episode, "Monster Management". He tricks the Salesguy into sending hundreds of small monsters to Dream Land as a part of his plan and even tricks them into downloading their strongest monster, Masher, an enemy first seen in Kirby's Dream Land 2, Dedede's Castle so that he and Kirby can destroy it together.

Later, Knuckle Joe learns the secret within his father's locket and discovers a fighting power that he uses to defeat the rebuilt Masher 2.0 in the episode "Masher 2.0". In the closing episodes (first released in America as the direct-to-video movie, Kirby: Fright to the Finish), Knuckle Joe helps Kirby, his friends, and the Cappies, who are on board Battleship Halberd (first appeared in Kirby Super Star's Revenge of Meta Knight game where Meta Knight tried to use it to conquer Dreamland because he was possessed by the Cloaked Nightmare), make it inside the home base for Nightmare Enterprises, which is a huge dark blue spaceship about as big as any planet with a giant eyeball that looks very similar to the Dark Matters, which is guarded by Destrayers and Air Ride Machine Riders. He is taking control of one of the Destrayers, as are Sirica, Arthur, Falspar, Noisurato, and Dragato, who are also piloting two other Destrayers and are also helping the Halberd.

Meta-Knights

Trident Knight (Meta Lance)

Trident Knight (Meta Lance)

The Meta-Knights are a group of foot soldiers that Meta Knight, their leader, often uses to test Kirby's skills throughout Kirby's Adventure, which is their first appearance. The reason why Meta Knight does so (and also throws candy to Kirby to help him) is because he wants to test Kirby's abilities prior to fighting him directly later in the game.

Mace Knight (Meta Chain)
Mace Knight (Meta Chain)

The Meta-Knights include Axe Knight, Mace Knight, Javelin Knight, and Trident Knight. In the US, their names are Meta Axe, Meta Chain, Meta Droid, and Meta Lance. The Meta-Knights return in Kirby Super Star where they're aiding Meta Knight in his attempt to conquer Dream Land via his warship, the Halberd. As their first appearance was in Kirby's Adventure, the four knights also appear in , the Game Boy Advance remake.

Interestingly, two knight enemies in Kirby's Dream Land 2 bear a distinct resemblance to and are based on Axe Knight and Mace Knight. They are Butch, who is similar to another knight enemy in that same game, Blade, who is based on the Sword Knight and Blade Knight enemies in various Kirby games, and Masher, who also appears in the anime as one of Nightmare Enterprises' most powerful monsters.

Masher/Masher 2.0
Masher/Masher 2.0

Masher appears twice in the anime; in the episode "Monster Management", he is a supersized version of the Masher enemies in Kirby's Dream Land 2, and in the episode "Masher 2.0", he is really souped up. He is still a supersized version of the Masher enemies in that game, but he bears a gold mace, extra gold rims on his armor, a more sinister look, a red visor, a pair of gold wings, now nearly-indestructible armor, and an ability to shoot lasers from the red orb on his chest, and he goes by the name of Masher 2.0, which suits the title of the second episode that he appears in.

Lovely

Lovely

Lovely

Lovely is a flower enemy that appears in Kirby Super Star where she waits for Kirby to come near using her cute appearance, then attacks by covering her entire face with her petals, swinging her head down on him or his helper, and eating their health. The only way to defeat a Lovely is by attacking her head.

Lovely's mutant form, seen with Tiff, Tuff, and Whispy Woods.
She appears in the anime as a guest character that Whispy Woods falls in love with, after which very soon King Dedede turns her into a giant mutant flower monster with cutter blades on her petals and tries to destroy Whispy by stealing his life force from him. After Cutter Kirby attacks her enough, Lovely is free from the dark influence that was put on her, and she vows that she will return for Whispy someday, and she does, giving him lots of non-evil Lovlies to look after in the future.

Gordo

Gordo is a famous enemy found in many Kirby games who is a spiked ball. He is invincible to all of Kirby's attacks, and even a very powerful one-shot ability doesn't affect him at all. Instead, players have to help Kirby avoid him. There are several Gordos in all the games he appears in. Distinct relatives of Gordo are Blado, a Gordo with blades instead of spikes in , and Captain Stitch, a less indestructible but larger version of Gordo who is a mini-boss in Kirby's Dream Land 2 and 3. Gordo also makes a cameo appearance in , also as an indestructible obstacle enemy.

Shotzo

Shotzo is another indestructible enemy found in many Kirby games. Despite his cannon-like appearance that gets Kirby fans to call him an "it", Shotzo is actually male. Shotzo attacks by blasting cannonballs at Kirby, who you have to guide past those cannonballs. Shotzo's distinct relatives include Motor Shotzo, a less indestructible but mobile and mechanical Shotzo in Kirby Super Star, Wall Shotzo, a Shotzo attached to a wall in , Flame Shotzo, a fire-shooting Shotzo in , and Blatzy, a faster version of Shotzo in Kirby's Dream Land, which is also the game that Shotzo originates from.

Anime-only characters

These particular characters were only featured in the anime series Kirby: Right Back at Ya!, and have not appeared in any games to date.

Tiff

Tiff and Tuff
Tiff and Tuff

Tiff (Fumu in the original) is the show's lead female character, and Kirby's biggest supporter, always trying to help him in his battles. She is usually the only one to show any suspicion about Dedede's plots, but in spite of her record on how many times she's right, the Cappies usually don't believe her until it's too late. She is very smart for her age and hopes to be a school teacher when she grows up. But one of her less redeaming features is that she has quite a short temper. Tiff lives in Dedede castle with her brother Tuff and her parents Sir Ebrum (Parm in the original) and Lady Like (Memu in the original).

Tuff

Tuff (Bun in Japan), Tiff's little brother, was also exclusive to the anime. Although he was also among Kirby's best friends, he could be more easily brainwashed by Dedede's schemes. Interestingly, his design seems based on the archer-like Yaban enemy drones seen in Kirby's Dream Land 3.

Tokkori

Tokkori
Tokkori

Tokkori is a grouchy bird who dominates Kirby's house and blames most of his troubles on Kirby. Would rather have someone to take care of his problems than him taking care of them himself. Usually forced to help (when he's needed) by Tiff.

Escargoon

Escargoon
Escargoon

Escargoon (Dr. Escargon in Japan), a commentative snail, is Dedede's sidekick, and usually accompanies the king wherever he goes. Despite being continually attacked by Dedede's mallet, Escargoon manages to keep his job around there. He is also quite smart, as he has been shown being able to develop a formula that can turn anything into a monster. (Why exactly Dedede doesn't use it more often rather than keep running up his Nightmare Enterprises bill is unexplainable). Escargoon seems to have feelings for King Dedede, though most of this is cut from the dub.

Notable [ As mentioned in their section of the games section of this article, Cappies in the anime are citizens of a town not far from King Dedede's castle, namely Cappy Town. These are the Cappies that live in the village:

Knuckle Joe's Father

Knuckle Joe's father, who is surprisingly the father of someone who has also appeared in some Kirby games as a random monster, appears in quite a few episodes of Kirby as a guest character. He fought side by side with Meta Knight and was so powerful, many Star Warriors were inspired by him to increase their strength. However, one night while the Star Warriors were sleeping, Nightmare's monsters attacked and Knuckle Joe's father was brought to him by one of them. When he returned to the other Star Warriors, he brought along with him more of Nightmare's monsters, and Meta Knight had no choice but to kill his friend. Thankfully, though, his love for his son had prevented him from completely surrendering to Nightmare, and before dying, he gave Meta Knight his locket with Knuckle Joe's baby picture in it, whose power Knuckle Joe used many years later to defeat Masher 2.0. Knuckle Joe's father also appears as a mini-figure in the two-part "Snack Attack" episode.

Knuckle Joe's father is quite popular amongst Kirby anime fans. He even has a very popular fan name, known as "Jecra", which was given to him by Ivyna J Spyder, a very aspiring Kirby fanatic on the internet.

Sirica

Sirica
Sirica

Although Sirica (Silica in Japan) is classified as a Guest Character, she is one of the only Guest Characters who appears in more than one episode aside from Knuckle Joe. Her first appearance is in the episode, "Crusade for the Blade", where she tries to steal Meta Knight's sword, Galaxia, in order to avenge her mother's death. According to Sirica, her mother is a legendary Star Warrior named Garlude (or Garloot or Garuto however you want to spell it). The story in her mind goes like this:

"Meta Knight and my mother were on a mission to retrieve the sacred sword Galaxia. Deep within the cave they were travelling to, they finally found Galaxia! Unfortunately, the two were attacked by the fearsome Monster, Kirisakin. My mother fought bravely, but she was overpowered. Ultimately, Meta Knight stole Galaxia and escaped, leaving my mother to perish."

Of course, Sirica tried to claim Galaxia as her own twice, and both times, she was electrocuted. Thankfully, though, the second time she tried and got electrocuted, she learned the surprising truth from Galaxia. Her mother sacrificed herself for Galaxia and was killed by Kirisakin in the process, and Meta Knight had actually had to fight against the savage single-handed beast to try and save her. After Kirby defeats Kirisakin, Sirica and Meta Knight finally become friends, and Sirica also becomes friends with Kirby and the rest of his friends. Sirica later returns in the final episodes, piloting one of three of the Destrayers protecting Nightmare Enterprises' home base, the other two Destrayers being piloted by Knuckle Joe, Arthur, Falspar, Noisurato, and Dragato, in which those three of the Destrayers helped the Halberd get inside the spaceship.

Sirica is a very popular character among Kirby anime fans. She is known for carrying with her an awesome weapon that can transform into a flamethrower, a missile launcher, a machine gun, a grappling hook, a sword, and vise-versa. Fans also agree that Sirica can be considered a female version of Knuckle Joe because her temper is just as bad as Joe's. Some Japanese fan arts show both her skin color and her hair color being purple instead of white.

Garlude

Garlude, who only appears in the Kirby anime episode "Crusade for the Blade", is Sirica's mother. She teamed up with Meta Knight to get Galaxia back, and when they came to Galaxia within a cave, Kirisakin attacked. Garlude grabbed Galaxia while getting electrocuted in the process and threw Galaxia to Meta Knight, who in return fought against Kirisakin to try and save her, but he was too late to save her from dying in the end. Sirica thought that Meta Knight had stolen Galaxia and left Garlude to die at Kirisakin's hands, but was proved otherwise in the end.

Despite only having appeared in one episode as a guest character, Garlude is also a very popular character among Kirby anime fans.

Arthur, Falspar, Noisurato, and Dragato

-->
A group of four other of the only Guest Characters in the anime that get more than one appearance, Arthur, Falspar, Noisurato, and Dragato are some of the last remaining Star Warriors besides Meta Knight and Kirby who are Meta Knight's long-time friends. Meta Knight met these four before the show's present. They pilot one of three of the Destrayers in the final episodes, the other two being piloted by Sirica and Knuckle Joe, and all of those three help the Halberd get inside Nightmare Enterprises' home base. All four of them are also first introduced as mini-figure toys in the two-part episode, "Snack Attack".

For those who are confused, Arthur is the gold knight, Falspar is the green knight with the red mohawk, Noisurato is the white knight with the axe, and Dragato is the purple knight.

Kit Cosmos

Kit Cosmos
Kit Cosmos

The fourth of the only Guest Characters in the anime that get more than one appearance. Kit Cosmos (Dakonyo in Japan) is a sergeant of the Star Warrior Army, and also one of the last remaining Star Warriors besides Meta Knight and Kirby. He currently lives on an island that he was stranded on so long that he thinks the Star Warriors still have an army until he realizes the battle is over near the end of the episode, "Island of the Lost Warrior", which is his first appearance. In that episode, he at first thinks Kirby, Tiff, Tuff, Lololo, and Lalala are monsters but he realizes otherwise so he teaches them how to battle monsters until Tuff drops his pocket knife out of his pocket, and it turns out that his pocket knife has Meta Knight's picture on it, which causes the kids to realize that Kit Cosmos has a connection to Meta Knight, and that is how the kids convinced him that after all this time of staying on his island, he finally gets to see Meta Knight again. However, after Kirby defeats the monster Tornadon, sent to Dedede by the Salesguy, Kit Cosmos changes his mind and wants to keep staying on his island after all, but tells Kirby to salute Meta Knight for him.

Kit Cosmos also appears as a mini-figure in the two-part episode, "Snack Attack", and in the final episodes, he has finally decided to leave his island and arrives in Cappy Town to join the Halberd Crew in their fight against Nightmare Enterprises, and, of course, still trains Kirby and the Kids, as well as the Cappies, on their way to N.M.E.'s home base.

Salesguy

Nightmare Enterprises Salesguy

Nightmare Enterprises Salesguy

Salesguy (Customer Service in Japan) is Nightmare's employee, and as his name suggests, he sells the monsters his boss creates. Dedede is only able to speak with this character via videophone and is often ordering monsters that Salesguy sends to him. In the final episodes, it is revealed that Salesguy is actually about as short as Kirby.

Yamikage

Yamikage
Yamikage

Yamikage (translated as Dark Shadow) is a ninja who used to be a Star Warrior but betrayed the Star Warrior Army to join up with Nightmare Enterprises. He is another of the only Guest Characters who gets more than one appearance. His first appearance is in "Ninja Binge", where he is bought from N.M.E. by Dedede and hired by him to steal back Benikage's failing report card, which everyone thought was a ninja scroll, after the kids steal it back after Dedede steals it for the first time. Benikage (translated as Red Shadow), who is unnamed in the English version of the anime, challenges Yamikage only to have his curiosity almost get him killed. Luckily, Kirby is there to help Benikage by transforming into Ninja Kirby and overpowering Yamikage until the black ninja traitor is defeated. Afterwards, Yamikage runs away and vows that he will return someday to try to defeat Kirby once more. Yamikage also appears in the two-part "Snack Attack" episode as a mini-figure. Sadly, he never gets a chance to appear in any more of the future episodes. Like Benikage, Yamikage is also unnamed in the English version of the anime. Interestingly enough, Yamikage looks strikingly like Bio Spark, the ninja enemy in Kirby Super Star, even though he doesn't wear the cloak that Bio Spark wears.

Nightmare Enterprises Monsters

Nightmare Enterprises Monsters
Nightmare Enterprises Monsters

The monsters that Nightmare creates are the creatures that King Dedede buys online from Nightmare Enterprises and uses to attack Kirby. There are many different kinds of monsters that have been made by Nightmare. Each of Nightmare's monsters is unique and has different techniques, and comes in different shapes and sizes. Though each and every of the monsters is different, they all are bad. An interesting fact is that some kinds of the monsters made by Nightmare participated in the war the Star Warriors had with them, which, of course, ended in favor of the monsters. They are called "Majuu" (translated to Demon Beast) in Japanese. An interesting fact states that some monsters may even have references to characters from other media, or even some culture, wether it be popular or not.

Notable Monsters

Some monsters did not have their names revealed in the English version of the anime, so they'll go by their Japanese names.

Destrayer

Destrayers

Destrayers

Destrayers are intergalactic spaceships sent by Nightmare Enterprises to wreak havoc (they look a lot like flying saucers). There is an endless supply of them, and all of them protect the headquarters for the company. They attack by shooting fireballs from underneath themselves or lasers from the guns on their fronts. Three of the Destrayers help Battleship Halberd get inside Nightmare's hideout; they have been stolen by and are piloted by Sirica, Knuckle Joe, Arthur, Falspar, Noisurato, and Dragato. Destrayers appear only in the final episodes.

Air Rider

Air Riders
Air Riders

Air Riders are ninja-like warriors riding on various different kinds of Air Ride machines, each one carrying a different weapon. The Air Ride machines they ride on in the anime include the Formula Star, the Rocket Star, the Winged Star, and the Shadow Star. Their weapons include flamethrowers, missile launchers, batons, gold maces, and endless supplies of tops. Some of them can be deployed from Destrayers and they patrol Nightmare Enterprises' headquarters. They appear only in the final episodes. In the 100th and very last episode, all Air Riders appearing in it carry all the same weapons as the one the single Rocket Star Rider carries in the final two-parter, "Air-Ride-in-Style", (which is the beginning of the final episodes, and was not only also aired as a sponsor for the Kirby Air Ride game, but was also released with the other three final episodes as the direct-to-video film Kirby: Fright to the Finish) plus, they carry the missile launchers that were mentioned before as well. Their missile launchers look similar to their flamethrowers, except that instead of flames, they shoot missiles.

An interesting fact is that the Air Ride machines the Air Riders ride on are said to be what, according to Kabu, the Cloaked Nightmare had been stealing throughout the universe. For every Air Rider that Kirby defeats, he gets to ride that Air Ride machine. These Air Ride Machines are also said to be what Nightmare stole from the Star Warriors that were overwhelmed by the monsters you always see in Meta Knight's flashbacks, as well as some other Nightmare Enterprises Monsters.

WolfWrath
WolfWrath

WolfWrath (Chili Dog in Japanese) is one of Nightmare's most dangerous and powerful monsters, and one of the most popular villains in the anime. It's easy to see why; while it fits the evil monster mold nicely, its dispected "cuteness" has attracted many fans.

WolfWrath attacks by biting, clawing, batting with its paws, and blowing fireballs. It also sets fires to fuel its fighting power. It appears in the episode "Sword and Blade, Loyal and True", a.k.a. "Hour of the WolfWrath", and also known in Japanese as "Loyalty! Sword and Blade".
