The Kitabatake clan of Ise province were direct descendants of Emperor Murakami. Early on during the Nambokucho Period, the Kitabatake were very ardent supporters of Emperor Go-Daigo, being led by the imperial loyalist Kitabatake Chikafusa. Throughout the hole of the Nambokucho Period the Kitabatake served very loyally under the Southern Court, then following in being influential in the Kinai region into the 16th century of the Sengoku Period. The branch of the Kitabatake in the Sengoku Period was the son of Chikafusa, Kitabatake Akiyoshi. Around present-day Ano and Tsu ( which was 20-30 miles SE of Kyoto), the Kitabatake once again ruled in the province of Ise. Following the year of 1569 the Kitabatake then attained the influence of Oda Nobunaga, but were supplanted within a decade.
