Earth lodge, Knife River Indian Villages National Historic Site
The Knife River Indian Villages National Historic Site, along the Missouri River in Stanton, North Dakota, preserves the ruins of three Northern Plains Indians villages of the Hidatsa and Mandan tribes, abandoned after a smallpox epidemic in 1837.
