Kobayakawa clan
Encyclopedia : K : KO : KOB : Kobayakawa clan
The of the Aki province were descendants of Doi Sanehira, who was a notable figure during the Gempei War. The grandson of Sanehira, Kobayakawa Kagehira was the one who started the surname of "Kobayakawa", while living in the Nutu area of Aki. By the year of 1260, the Kobayakawa had split into that of three branches (Nuta, Shinjo, and Takehara). The Nuta and Shinjô branches had essentially reformed while being at increasing odds with the Takehara branch, around the time of mid-15th century. Following mid-16th century, the Kobayakawa had then served under Kobayakawa Takakage who was really the 3rd son of the famed Mori Motonari. Due to the influence that Takakage had with that of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, the Kobayakawa greatly grew in their prestige.
