Korsun-Shevchenkivskyi (Ukrainian: Корсунь-Шевченківський, translit. Korsun'-Shevchenkivs'kyi) or Korsuń Szewczenkowski (in Polish) is a city located in the Cherkasy Oblast (province) in central Ukraine. The city rests on the banks of the Ros' River, and is the administrative center of the Korsun-Shevchenkivsky Raion (district).
The current estimated population is 18,593 (as of 2005).
History
Until 1944 the city was known simply as Korsun, afterwards it was renamed to honor Taras Shevchenko. The city's history dates back several centuries to the times of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.See also
