Kumagaya (Japanese: 熊谷市; -shi) is a city located in Saitama, Japan and part of the Greater Tokyo Area.
The city was named for the 12th-century warrior Kumagai Naozane, and was a post town and silk market during the Edo Period (1603-1867). It was designated as a city on April 1, 1933.
As of 2003, the city has an estimated population of 156,434 and the density of 1,836.51 persons per km². The total area is 85.18 km².
