Kumanovo (Macedonian:Куманово) is a municipality in northern Republic of Macedonia. Kumanovo is also the name of the city where the municipal seat is found.

Geography

The municipality borders Lipkovo municipality, Ilinden and Aračinovo in the west, Serbia in the north, Sveti Nikole and Petrovec in the south, Staro Nagoričane and Kratovo in the east. It expands on a area of 509,48 km².

Demographics

By the 2003 territorial division of the Republic, a part of the rural Orašac municipality was attached to Kumanovo municipality, the other part of Orašac was atached to Staro Nagoričane municipality.

Without Orašac the municipality of Kumanovo had 94,589 inhabitants in 1994 and 103,205 at the lasta national census . The population of the abolished Orašac municipality was 1,638 in 1994 and 1,252 in 2002. The present day municipality has 104,457 inhabitants. Viewed from the number of inhabitants, Kumanovo with 105 484 residents it is the most populus municipality in Republlic of Macedonia, the oposite atribute is asigned to Vraneštica municipality.

There are 48 inhabited places in this municipality, one town and 49 villages.
