Kylix programming tool
Encyclopedia : K : KY : KYL : Kylix programming tool
Kylix is a Linux version of the Borland Corporation's Delphi and C++ Builder development environments for Microsoft Windows. Kylix allows programmers to develop software applications for Linux using Object Pascal, C++, or C.
During its lifetime the product was plagued with bugs and instability. Due to disappointing sales it was abandoned and there are no indications another version is forthcoming. There is no upgrade path to Delphi 2005 nor Delphi 2006, and neither seem to include the CLX library support. Furthermore, the last official supported Linux distributions are: Red Hat Linux 7.2, SUSE Linux 7.3 and Mandrake Linux 8.2. Kylix will run under more recent Linux distributions but requires some research and additional configuration (eg. have an older version of glibc available, and make other changes to the default environment).
Kylix is named after the kylix, an ancient Greek drinking cup.
