L'Orignal, Ontario

L'Orignal is a village in Champlain Township in eastern Ontario. It took its name from a nearby location on the Ottawa River once known as Pointe à l'Orignal, where moose, "orignal" in French, crossed the river. In 1816, it was chosen as the district town for the Ottawa District. It is now the county seat for Prescott and Russell United Counties. As of 2006, the population is 3,563.

Geography

According to Statistics Canada, the village has a total area of 5.68 km² (2.19 mi²). It is located at 45 degrees 37' N and 74 degrees 44' W.
