La Berrichonne de Châteauroux is a French second division football team from Châteauroux, which lost the French Cup final to Paris Saint-Germain in 2004. However, because PSG finished second in Ligue 1, thereby qualifying for the Champions League, Châteauroux earned an entry to the UEFA Cup, where they were beaten in the first round by Club Brugge from Belgium.
The club spent one season in Ligue 1, in 1997-98, after finishing 1st in the previous year's Ligue 2. Chateauroux, from the central, Indre area, have failed to mount a serious challenge for promotion since relegation from Ligue 1, but have kept towards the top end of Ligue 2. Chateauroux first appeared in Ligue 2 in 1994 after promotion from the inferior National League.
The club play home fixtures at the 17,000 capacity Stade Gaston Petit, in front of crowds of around 6,000 - 7,000. Visitors are directed to one end of the Credit Agricole stand. The team strip is a deep red and blue, vertical striped shirt and blue shorts.
The club president is Patrick Le Seyec (2005), and the Manager is Didier Olle-Nicolle (2005).
