London Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS) Princess Royal Class No. 6203 (British Railways No. 46203) Princess Margaret Rose is a preserved British steam locomotive.
Service
6203 was built in 1935 at Crewe Works, the third member of her class and first of the second batch. She was named Princess Margaret Rose after the 5-year-old younger daughter of Albert, Duke of York (later King George VI), Princess Margaret Rose.After nationalisation in 1948, British Railways renumbered her 46203. 46203 was withdrawn in 1962.
Preservation
After withdrawal, 46203 was bought by Billy Butlin of Butlin's holiday camps and became one of two preserved Princesses, the other being 6201 Princess Elizabeth. After cosemetic restoration at Crewe, she was moved to Pwllheli in Gwynedd, arriving there in May 1963. She remained there until 1975 when she departed for the Midland Railway Centre in Derbyshire.Butlins sold the engine for £60,000 in 1985 and restoration to working order started and was completed in 1990.
She is now based at the Midland Railway Centre in Derbyshire and is owned by the Princess Royal Locomotive Trust, who also own another Stanier pacific, "Duchess" 6233 Duchess of Sutherland.
