LXer is a website, founded by webmaster Dave Whitinger, which publishes up-to-the-minute news on the world of GNU/Linux, the various BSD's, & Open Source/Free Software. Dave Whitinger also co-founded one of the original Linux Community News sites back in the 1990s. This explains, in part, why so many long-time Linux community members have found their way to the site.
While anyone can submit news stories, LXer usually gets it already through their aggregation of news sources. LXer's purpose is to be an excellent-quality, editorially independent Linux news site without flashy ads. One of LXer's features is its voting system and its bayesian filtering-based users' votes.
LXer has recently expanded into keeping track of LUG meetings and corporations switching promises. Also, like most sites they have a number of forums that provide a place for moderated discussion about news relating Free and Open Source software issues.
