La Gran Sabana

La Gran Sabana (English: The Great Savannah) is one of the major attractions in Venezuela and is located in the south of Bolívar State on the Venezuelan-Brazilian border, approximately 1,400 km from Caracas. The area has a tropical humid climate with an average temperature of 28 ºC. In it live diverse indigenous groups, the most populous of them is the Pemón. The highest tepuy (mountain) is Roraima at 2,810 metres; its most important city is Santa Elena de Uairén with approximately 12,000 inhabitants.
Canaima National Park, was created by a decree on the 12th of June, 1962 with an approximate surface area of 10,000 square kilometres. In 1975 its area was extended to 30,000 km² making it the sixth largest national park in the world. The national park roughly contains the area of La Gran Sabana but their areas do not exactly match.

To get to la Gran Sabana, one must go by the tarmac road from El Dorado to Brazil. Equally, one can fly to Santa Elena de Uairen. To access the best attractions, one would take a 4x4. Kavak can only be reached by air.External links
