Lakatameia (Greek: Λακαταμεια) is a suburb of Nicosia, Cyprus. It is located in Nicosia District. The total population in the Lakatameia municipality was 28,466 in 2002. Officially the town is split into two different entities : Upper and Lower Lakatamia (Πανω & Κατω Λακαταμεια) Due to the expansion of the Nicosia urban area, Lakatameia has seen considerable population growth in the past years and has grown from two small villages into a sizable suburb. Lakatameia Airfield, an airstrip sometimes used by the military and gouvernment officials is located east of Lakatameia. The town also hosts the private residence of the Cypriot President Tassos Papadopoulos.
