Lake Oval

Encyclopedia : L : LA : LAK : Lake Oval

The Lake Oval is a football stadium that was used primarily for Australian rules football. Before 1982 when they relocated to Sydney, the South Melbourne Football Club (who then changed their name to the Sydney Swans) used the Lake Oval as their home ground in the VFL (which is now known as the AFL).

In recent years most of the terracing was pulled down and a soccer stadium erected in its place, leaving only the main stand at the city goal end intact. This stand has fallen into disrepair and cordoned off, and was the spark of a heated debate by residents and urban developers as to its immediate future. However the Sydney Swans have shown interest in buying it back from the soccer club and making it a shine and museum dedicated to the old South Melbourne Football Club heritage.

The Lake Oval is located in Albert Park, Victoria.
