Lancashire County Council is the local authority for the county of Lancashire, England. It currently consists of 84 councillors, and is controlled by the Labour Party, who have 44 councillors, versus 31 Conservative councillors, 6 Liberal Democrats and one independent. The council is led by Hazel Harding. [link] [link]

History

The council was first set up under 1889 according to the Local Government Act 1889, covering the administrative county. It was reconsituted under the Local Government Act 1972 to cover a different area. In the 1990s, Blackburn with Darwen and Blackpool left the area covered by the council.

Elections are held every four years.
